When the New Testament talks about church, it uses the Greek word Ekklesia meaning a called-out gathering of people. While we might think of church as a building, that is not who or what the Church is. WE are more than that, because the Church is a people, not a building. We don’t just go to church, WE are the Church.
Ekklesia says that
WE have a new corporate identity as the family of God.
WE are unified together as a community in Christ.
WE encompasses all believers.
WE have a purpose to live differently and invite others to do the same.
When we make the decision to follow Jesus, our ME becomes a WE. The presence of Christ lives in us, and connects us to Ekklesia. Jesus said that His Church is powerful, purposeful, and eternal, and not even the gates of Hell will overcome it (Matthew 16:18). Together we will embark on a journey to better understand our stories, history, and identity as God’s family. Don’t worry, this journey will not be made alone, because wherever WE go, WE go together. That’s what it means to be the Church.
