Community Outreach

Northside operates a Food Pantry in the New Albany midtown area. The Food Pantry is open twice a week to anyone in need of food. Each person or family is allowed to come once a month. We help feed over 5,000 people a year. We are open every Tuesday and Thursday. It is our goal to not only provide for the community physically but also spiritually.

We have a few different types of volunteer roles:

• Food Load - this volunteer will help prepare each clients order, stock shelves, and reorganize
• Table Host - this volunteer will get to know the clients and pray for them, they will also assist their clients with picking out fresh produce and bread items
• Check In - this volunteer will log each client into our database when they arrive
• Waiting Room Greeter - this volunteer will chat with clients that are in the waiting room
• Agency Pick Up - this volunteer with assist with picking up donations from the church and local stores. They will drop them off at the Food Pantry. (different days of the week)

We have a couple of different serving rotations for you to choose from.

The living opportunities we offer at Autumn Woods Health Campus are as unique as the seniors who make up our community. We understand that even if you need extra help from time to time, your independence is still vitally important.

Serving might look like:

At Apartment Life, we value Jesus’ command to “love your neighbor.”  We help make these words of Jesus personal by placing a team in a local apartment community where they spend time each week engaging new residents, hosting events, and creating opportunities for care and connection. 

95% of people who live in apartment communities are not connected to a local church. Apartment Life exists to see lives in apartment communities radically transformed by making Christ known. We believe that can happen through relational opportunities that lead to spiritual conversations, church invitations, gospel proclamations and ultimately, life transformation.

Serving Might Look Like:

Apartment Life is looking to staff Lochwood Apartments (55 Lochwood Court, New Albany) with a team of 2 people to engage residents by hosting social events, welcoming new residents to the community, and providing acts of care and service on a monthly basis.

• team to spend 10 or so hours per week engaging new residents, hosting events, and building friendships with those in the community.

We provide ongoing resources and training to help our teams be effective in this opportunity, but rely upon the local church for support and encouragement as well. If you’re someone who enjoys planning events, making new friends, and helping others connect with Jesus, you might be the right fit for this opportunity.

Teams will receive a discounted rent in a two-bedroom apartment.

Azalea Hills is a community-based assisted and independent living facility.

Serving might look like:

At Bennett Place, our senior living community, we provide a warm, family environment.. We welcome pets, and help our residents thrive in mind and body through a variety of offerings, such as exercise classes, worship services, tai chi, cooking club, and sing-alongs. We also go on outings for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Schedule your visit at the assisted living community in New Albany for quality care.

Since 1993, Brandon’s House Counseling Center, a not-for-profit mental health organization in New Albany, Indiana, has helped thousands of teens and their families by providing FREE individual and family therapy. The goal is to bridge the gap between those who truly need someone to confide in who otherwise would not be able to afford counseling services. Brandon’s House aims to provide as many teens and families as possible with tools to face the extreme challenges of adolescence and familial conflict.

Serving might look like:

• Helping with administrative tasks such as answering the phone, scheduling and greeting new clients, communicating with counselors, and ensuring a positive atmosphere for all clients and their families.

This faith-based organization serves at-risk children through counseling, foster care, residential treatment, and adoption services. 

Serving could look like:   

• Helping with landscape / building maintenance
• Helping foster families and single moms with various needs
• Help with bi-monthly dinners for foster family training

A faith-based ministry in New Albany that assists women and men with unplanned and crisis pregnancy services. 3 locations: New Albany, Salem, and Corydon.

There are various ways to serve. CHOICES depends on a dedicated group of volunteers to meet the needs of families in Southern Indiana. We need team members who are able to make a weekly commitment (typically about 3 hours) to serve families in one of our 3 center locations.

Our B Team members help clients in the Blessing Boutique. Tasks in the boutique include assisting families as they shop, washing donated clothes, packaging diapers, sorting donations, and ironing.

Our C Team members serve one-on one to mentor local families. As a member of the C Team, you will be trained to meet with clients coming in for parenting support and most importantly, have the chance to share the Gospel. These visits involve getting to know each family to help them set goals, develop life skills, and become the parent they were meant to be.

A Christian mission that serves low-income areas of Louisville with housing and other outreach needs, aiding ministries to fulfill their mission using construction as well as leads short-term teams to serve in Mexico, New Orleans, and Appalachia. Offers opportunities for both out-of-town groups and local residents in the Louisville, KY, area to create home ownership for families dedicated to our Missional Living Program.

Serving opportunities:

• primarily physical construction but could include other opportunities

Hope Collaborative offers school-based mentoring for public school students. Caring adults consistently meet with students 1hr a week to develop meaningful relationships and promote character growth, socio-emotional development, and academic achievement.
Mentors are an important piece in helping children develop their confidence and grow.  Research has shown that the more positive role models that support children of poverty the greater chance the cycle will be broken.  

We are currently focusing on the following elementary schools:

What serving could look like:
Commit to consistent mentorship for one school year but are encouraged to recommit and follow their mentees throughout their public school career.

This faith-based medical outreach serves nine counties in Southern Indiana with a mobile medical clinic for low-income families. We offer free HIV and Hep C testing. Assist with family planning in the mobile clinic along with mobile teledoc visits. 

Serving might look like: 

• helping with initial set up for the day and handing out snacks and information

A faith-based  six-month transitional reentry program to assist men who are re-entering society from the prison system. Freed From Within takes a holistic approach to reentry and recovery. Programming includes housing, food, life skills courses, job readiness classes, money management courses, bible study, faith services, and individualized mentoring.

Serving could look like:

• mentoring men on both life skills and faith 
  • This program is for men and women, Freed From Within is a male only Transitional Living Campus, however we are also diverse. The Ruth & Naomi Ministries is for ladies, therefore, the ladies will also need mentors.

We are a senior citizen community. We have 8 villa’s (separate homes) each Villa holds 10 Elders. 

What Serving Might Look Like:

• We are in need every year for our 8 patios to be weeded, planted, and decorated. 
• Play the piano or any other instruments for our Elders. We also are in need of singers. Our resident’s love music.

A faith-based organization that serves the Floyd County community with emergency services to empower and support individuals and families toward stability.

Serving opportunities:

• helping with a Food Pantry and special projects.

Open M-F from 9 - 3:30 and our regularly scheduled volunteer shifts are 9-12:30 and 12:30-3:30. We stay open later on Monday afternoons. We have a 3:30-6:00 shift only on Mondays.  We also have volunteers who do retail pickups and deliveries during the day.

We can also accommodate volunteers on a very limited basis for special projects during our open hours.

Since 1978, Hosparus Health, a fully accredited not-for-profit hospice and palliative care organization, has provided medical care, grief services, symptom and medication management and more for people facing serious and chronic illnesses in 41 counties in Kentucky and Indiana. Hosparus Health is one of the nation’s largest hospice and palliative care providers with over 600 employees and more than 500 volunteers. Serving Might Look Like:

Hosparus Health provides compassionate care, comfort and support to seriously ill patients and their caregivers. Depending on their interests, volunteers provide companionship to patients and respite to their caregivers, bereavement care, veteran-to-veteran companionship, card writing to patients and community outreach. 

Volunteers needed in Clark, Crawford, Daviess, Dubois, Floyd, Harrison, Jefferson, Martin, Orange, Perry, Pike, Scott, Spencer and Washington counties. 

Interested participants must have available transportation, and provide documentation for COVID-19 vaccinations prior to training.

A faith-based transitional home in Greenville, IN for single women and their children, providing housing, life-skills, and other programs to help women become self-sufficient and productive members of their community. We partner with other community organizations to provide: spiritual mentoring, educational opportunities, financial training, parenting classes and support groups for the moms. We will also focus on the physical, emotional, and educational development of their children.

First Wednesday of every  month Jacob's Well will offer a Lunch and Learn. 12-1pm @8757 Rufing Rd, Grenville IN (go to website to RSVP).

A place where you can pack meals for the hungry!

All ages and abilities can participate in 4 simple steps where you package shelf-stable meals. When you pack and fund meals, you provide a family with a source of stability so that moms and dads can focus on getting back on their feet. A meal changes everything - especially when it's given in Jesus' name. 

This Christian marriage ministry exists to help couples discover God’s design for healthy and enduring marriages by providing classes and special marriage events from their Merci barn in Memphis, IN. They also provide Parenting Classes and Bible Studies.

Serving could consist of:

• basic yard work
• building maintenance
• administrative work

May 2022:

The barn property is a little over 2 acres and needs to be mowed and trimmed weekly. They have a 60 inch zero turn mower and a weed eater there. Looking for a couple of two man teams to mow and trim on a rotation so the same team would not need to do it every week. 

Also looking for a few volunteers who would be interested in serving by general cleaning.

The Mustard Seed has been planted to support Christian organizations that assist with healing and/or prevention of childhood sexual abuse, and to be a gateway for survivors to access resources and to facilitate healing.

New Life International is a water purification ministry that partners with mission agencies, missionaries, local congregations and individuals to provide safe water and the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those in need. We have volunteer opportunities for individuals and very small groups.

Volunteer opportunities:

• Assembly parts of the water purification system (as needed basis)
• Lamination of water purification manuals (as needed basis)
• Outdoor (weed eating, cutting, splitting and stacking firewood)
• Ambassadors to share about NLI
• Related to R&D, engineers especially electrical engineers

Nomad Church Collective connects the Church to the poor and the poor to the Church, making disciples by engaging the homeless, the addicted, the mentally ill, and the abandoned with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The mission of OCA - Orphan Care Alliance is to equip, connect, and mobilize local churches to help each believer find their way to engage for Christ these children and the foster care/adoptive community around them. Christ expects his people to love and care for vulnerable children, and has empowered his church, more than any human institution, for this task.

Serving could look like:

• becoming a foster parent or adoptive parent
• encouraging and supporting foster or adoptive families through challenges
• providing goods or services to these families
• becoming a mentor to a teenager in foster care

Quilts of Love is a serving group that comes together on Monday mornings to make quilts for different organizations to be handed out to at risk children and families.

How you can serve: 

• Donate fabric and batting (large pieces) preferably 100% cotton.
• You can quilt at home and donate finished quilts.
• Come and create quilts with the group. (18+ years old and Sewing machine knowledge required)

Volunteer opportunities include supporting blood donations and delivering much-needed services to your community.

• Blood Donor Ambassador -  Join a lifesaving team to help blood collections in your community.
• Blood Transportation Specialist - Deliver blood, platelets or other lifesaving blood products to nearby hospitals
• Disaster Action Team - Join a team that responds to over 60,000 emergencies every year.

Refresh F5 increases access to health and opportunity to all people while reducing barriers. Refresh F5 provides services including community health, case management, community paramedicine, nutrition and wellness, medical transportation, insurance enrollment, emergency financial assistance, and preventative testing. Refresh F5 also collaborates with other organizations to provide integrated health, behavioral, and social services to improve the quality of life.

This refugee mission exists to Glorify God by partnering with local churches to love refugees and immigrants who have settled in Louisville, providing English learning, outreach programs, and services to help integrate into their new American society.

At Rolling Hills Healthcare Center we believe in making the most of the time you or your loved one spends with us. We’ve built social wellness opportunities into our senior rehabilitation services. Residents are able to enjoy everyday activities such as bingo as well as special seasonal events such as holiday parties. The center also hosts fun events surrounding sports competitions, including special activities throughout the week of the Kentucky Derby.

Serving could look like:

The New Albany Salvation Army works to overcome poverty by providing emergency services, food, housing, disaster relief, holiday assistance, and more to individuals and families in Southern Indiana (including 6 counties). Salvation Army is a church that strives to serve without discrimination.

Scarlet Hope exists to share the hope and love of Jesus with women who have been exploited by the adult entertainment industry. 

Serving could look like:

Our strategies for serving women that have been exploited or trafficked are through (1) Outreach: going to women in the industry through strip club outreach teams of volunteers who deliver weekly meals to share the love of Jesus, as well as through Digital Missionaries who reach out via Text Outreach to women being exploited online. (2) Community and Discipleship: our local resource center offers a safe community for women to attend case management, enjoy a community meal, grow in life skills classes, receive counseling services, participate in art therapy and a weekly bible study. We would love to welcome new co-laborers to share the hope and love of Jesus while building trust, growing in relationships, and inviting women into the potential their Creator has for them. 

Mentors - Mentors are an important piece in helping children develop their confidence and grow. Mentors can eat breakfast, lunch, or meet after school with their student to listen, eat, play games, read a book, or just spend time with them. We would like mentors to commit at least twice a month. Research has shown that the more positive role models that support children of poverty the greater chance the cycle will be broken.  

Staff Appreciation - Serving in a school that is impoverished has its challenges. Northside is helping us establish more parent engagement with the goal of re-establishing a PTO. In more affluent schools, the PTO helps show their 'love' to the school's staff throughout the school year. If you or your employer would like to partner with SEJ to support our staff, we are looking for people to help provide lunches/snacks, cards, or serve our staff as we serve our children. 

Parent-Community Event Sponsorship - We are looking for individuals or businesses to help sponsor school and community events. In more traditional schools, the PTO serves in this capacity and provides funding. This could look like providing funding or serving with us in events such as literacy nights, math nights, Halloween Trick or Treat, Fun nights, and other events.  

Prayers - Working in a high poverty building weighs heavy on the heart and mind. It would be great to have a group of people that as principal I could send prayer requests to. It means a lot to me and others that there are people out there praying for us and what we do for our students.  

SOAR Ministries mission is Christ centered healing for women who have experienced childhood sexual abuse. We do this by offering support groups and various activities.

Serving Opportunities:

Faith based missions organization with nearly 400 missionaries serving in many fields around the world, making disciples among peoples who are classified as unreached. Team Expansion is headquartered at Emerald Hills, a 61-acre campus in Louisville, KY dedicated to prayer, retreat, and learning. Emerald Hills provides a Prayer Center and Atrium, a training center, and miles of prayer trails through beautiful woods.

Opportunities for service include:

• praying for the unreached and missionaries serving among them
• administrative help around the office
• home-stay hosts for visiting missionaries and people in trainings
• care for missionary kids during home service visits and trainings
• help in upkeep of the property, including mulching prayer trails and mowing grass

WORKs is a once-a-month ministry whereby teams of a few men serve the needs of widows and single moms in our community. These women often have needs for small household repairs and maintenance and cannot do it themselves. WORKs Ministry meets the third Saturday morning of each month at 7am for fellowship, prayer, and assignments before heading out to serve.

Serving could look like: 

• fixing a squeaky door or leaky faucet
• chopping up a fallen tree
• cleaning leaves out of a gutter

While being a "handy-man" is helpful, being available to serve and care for these women is most important.

YFC’s Campus Life is an after-school program in public high schools and middle schools that combines healthy relationships with creative outreach to help young people make good choices, establish a foundation for life, and positively impact their schools.

Serving could look like:

• assist in local program building relationships with young people to help point them to Jesus

812 MX Ministry is a 501c3 non-profit Dirt Bike ministry in Georgetown, Indiana. We allow a safe place for youth ages 5-21 in our community to learn how to ride dirt bikes while also investing into them spiritually. 812 MX Ministry hosts events typically every other Saturday during the warmer months and weather permitting. Events are free of charge, with chapel service, devotional time, and lunch provided at no charge. The ministry averages 30 youth riders along with their families per event. This has become a great venue for families in our local community to grow spiritually while meeting them in their pursuit of motocross. Please join their facebook page under @812 MX Ministry
