This week’s devotionals are from the “Preaching of Jesus” series in Mark Moore’s Quest 52. Jesus’s preaching was mind blowing. Crowds came to hear his teaching, his stories were subversive, and his training enabled others to carry out his mission. Slow down, read the text, and then let the text read you.
Make a list of things you are worrying about, perhaps on a whiteboard (or a window in your living room with erasable markers). Now put them in three columns: resources, reputation, and relationships.
As an anti-anxiety exercise, make a list of things you are grateful to God for.
Is your worry in your head or in your body? True anxiety disorders have physiological manifestations such as shortness of breath, insomnia, extreme fatigue, and/or heart palpitations. If you have anxiety in your body, you may need to consult with a physician or counselor.
Worst-case scenario exercise: Take one item on your list. Think it out to the ultimate extreme. What is the worst thing that can happen? How do the scriptures in the New Testament address the worst-case scenario?
