This week’s readings are based on the “Chill” sermon series. For this series, we are looking at God’s command to rest and the implications this has on our lives. Start resting with God by slowing down, reading the text, and then letting it read you.
Lord, my heart is not proud; my eyes are not haughty. I don’t concern myself with matters too great or too awesome for me to grasp. Instead, I have calmed and quieted myself, like a weaned child who no longer cries for its mother’s milk. Yes, like a weaned child is my soul within me.
Psalm 131:1-2 (NLT)
More often than not, we come to God not looking for rest, but to resolve our own agenda. Just like kids coming to their parents wanting food, money, help, and the list can go on. With that picture in mind, what if we were just content with being in the presence of God? What if we didn’t have an agenda, but accepted whatever gift He had to offer? What if that gift was only His presence? Would it be enough, or would you want more?
Today, ponder these questions and how you are resting in the presence of God.
