Behold: December 5

This week’s readings are based on the “Behold” sermon series. For this series, we are looking at what it truly means to BEHOLD, gaze at, grasp, relish, internalize, and rejoice in Jesus Christ. Start beholding right now by giving thanks for this time with God. Then start reading the text and letting it read you.

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
Isaiah 7:14 (ESV)

The word “behold” carries a meaning of “do not be fearing.” But, why shouldn’t we be fearing? The answer is found in the name Immanuel, because it means “God with us” (Matthew 1:23). This name refers to Jesus. God is not some far away being that doesn’t care. He sent His Son to be with us. Jesus promises us with another “behold” that He will be with us always to the very end of the age (Matthew 28:20). He is present in our lives. He knows our joys and sorrows. Behold, He is Immanuel. As we embark on this Christmas season, where do you need to be reminded that God is with you?
