This week’s readings are based on the “Behold” sermon series. For this series, we are looking at what it truly means to BEHOLD, gaze at, grasp, relish, internalize, and rejoice in Jesus Christ. Start beholding right now by giving thanks for this time with God. Then start reading the text and letting it read you.
“This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
Luke 2:12-15 (NIV)
Since Genesis, all of creation had been waiting for the birth of Jesus. The One has come to take away the sin of the world and bring peace. This is why a whole company of angels just has to break out into song. The angels declare a deeper, more lasting peace. It is a peace of mind and soul made possible by a Savior. It is a peace only found in Jesus Christ, because, as Lord, He has the authority to give it. It is a peace that sets apart all believers, because, through Christ, the favor of God can rest upon us. It is no wonder that Jesus is described as the Prince Of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). Reread the lyrics of the angel’s song today. What song of worship brings you peace? Spend some time singing or listening to this song today. Let it be your prayer of celebration and peace.
