Group Description
This session of Advancing Through Adversity begins on January 22, 2024. It will meet on Monday nights at 6:30 for 13 weeks. This group can be joined up through the 4th session on February 12. After that, you may join the next session which begins on August 19. More details will be emailed before the first group meeting.
Adversity is defined as: A state or instance of serious or continued difficulty or misfortune, Merriam Webster Online. All of us have faced, are facing, or will face difficulty or misfortune. But with Jesus we can still thrive and move forward. Want to know how? Join our discussion group where we will share with and support one another while reading and discussing Charles Stanley’s book: Advancing Through Adversity.
Advancing Through Adversity is one of the support groups that are a part of Care Night, which has been designed by the Care Ministry to promote unity and create community. It is our hope that Care Night will provide a place for all those who are hurting and broken to find not only a place where “It is okay to not be okay”, but also a place to heal, move forward, and thrive in relationship with Christ and with one another.
To join this group, just click the "Join Group" button and fill out the form, or visit mynorthside.com/care for more information.

Group Description
Hi, my name is Albert Nordhoff and I lead a Northside Men group on Thursday evenings. I have been a Christian for over 25 years and my wife, Teresa, and I have been members of NCC since 2015. My wife and I have been married for 33 years and have 2 adult children. Our son and daughter both currently live in Georgia. Our daughter and son-in-law just had their first child last year so we are now proud grandparents as well.
I have been attending Northside Men meetings for about 5 years but have just recently had a change in my job that allowed me the time to step in as a leader. The group that I lead is made up of men of different ages and backgrounds, some are newer in their faith and others have been Christians for years. Regardless, we are all still learning and growing in our faith together. We enjoy sharing experiences and laughter as we help each other to become the men that God has called us to be.

I am a follower of Jesus. I have attended Northside since 2005. I have been married since 2014 to my wife, Mary. We have 4 wonderful children; 3 girls, Kora (2015), Emillia (2016), Cai (2020), and 1 boy, Leo (2018). I am a franchise owner and the Director of Operations for a local family owned and operated Fast Food Restaurant chain called Indi's Chicken. I have several hobbies which include golfing, Japanese anime, Superhero & Fantasy Adventure Movies and shows, and die hard fan of The Golden State Warriors.
The purpose of our group is to provide a safe, comfortable, and non-judgement brotherhood for men in any season of life, seeking accountability for their confessed sins and to be a support community for each other as we repent. Our group is very personal, vulnerable, and authentic with a focus on biblical manhood and winning the battle against sexual bondage.

Group Description
If you would like to join a men’s group with no age limits where you feel comfortable sharing life experiences, where you have a willingness to allow God to work in your life, and where you have a desire to make faith real in your life this may be the group for you. Personally, these are all daily challenges, but meeting with other men makes it easier.
I have years of experience studying God’s word and leading small groups. My passion for God’s word can only be surpassed by the joy of discussing its truth with others. My other joy is spending time with my three adult children. I am a sports fan of football, basketball, and auto racing. I enjoy playing cards with friends and family, especially euchre. I also enjoy the outdoors and fishing.

Group Description
Hey ladies, I’m Brittanie Starks! I moved here in the summer of last year and have attended Northside ever since. Even though I call Indiana home, my family has moved 5 times in the past 7 years. I have been blessed to call many other places home and have experienced more than I ever imagined. I have always been a follower of Jesus but have been called to do more and have been diving deeper into my walk with Jesus. I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart for 5 years and have 2 amazing girls, 1 & 4. In my free time, I love photography, board games, and last minute road trips with my family. I have been a part of many bible studies and life groups over the years and see the value in having women of all ages in a life group together because all stages of life are amazing and beautiful! I love food so our group will definitely have snacks and laughter. Although we won't be providing childcare, I definitely understand if your kids can’t leave your side, please feel free to bring them if needed. I encourage you to see if my group will work for you. Group Description
We are Bud and Stacy Wayne. We have attended Northside for 5 years. We have been married for 19 years. We have a total of four kids, two girls ages 7, 10 and two adult kids not living at home. We have a group that we have been meeting with for a while and are open to new members to join. We meet weekly rotating between Tuesdays (1st & 3rd) & Wednesdays (2nd & 4th).
This is our official rollout as a life group through church, so we are still new at this. We encourage folks that are open to joining a group that may not always have it together; like US but want to grow in their faith and dive into the word. Kids are welcome, but we don't have childcare. We do have a basement with lots of toys where kids can play.

Group Description
Hi, my name is Gary Norman and I have been leading a Northside Men group for several years now. My wife, Jo, and I have been part of Northside since the early days back on Grant Line Road and we both have always been very involved in the ministry of NCC. A few years ago I retired from the NAFC school system where I had been a teacher and counselor for almost forty years. My wife and I enjoy spending time with our two adult daughters, pre-teen granddaughter, and two grand dogs. We also enjoy camping and running/walking. Since retiring I have become a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children (CASA) and a volunteer tax preparer with AARP.
Our group is made up of a neat bunch of guys ranging in ages from the 40's to the mid 70's. Some of the guys are retired and some are still working full-time. Regardless of our ages, we all realize we still have a lot to learn on how to grow in our faith in Jesus Christ and how to be the men we have been called to be. As a bonus, we have a good time learning together. For this season, we will be meeting at 6:30AM on Tuesday mornings at Northside in the West Auditorium.

I am 50 years old and married to my husband Robb. Although I never had children of my own, Robb has a daughter who is married and we have one grand girl named Maren Jo! We also have lots of fur babies who we treat like children! I have been with UPS for 32 years and work as a Brokerage operations manager with 130 employees who report to me. I love learning and have earned four degrees with the most recent being a Ph.D. in Human Services specializing in Nonprofit Management in 2018. Also, I am working on a Master's of Divinity on-line degree with Regent University! My hobbies include bible study, crochet, cross stitch, and reading. I also love to travel and camp with friends and family. Our group of ladies is very diverse - all ages, married and single, with different religious backgrounds but all growing spiritually in the Lord together! My focus for this group is for women to come together and continue to strengthen their relationship with God through weekly bible study and open discussion with the fellowship of other like-minded women. Hi and thanks for checking out our group! We have attended Northside since 2012. Our hobbies center around the outdoors: swimming, boating, camping, traveling (love the beach!), and more. We don’t have kids yet, but it is in our hearts to start a family in God’s timing. We lost our first child to stillbirth 2 years ago, and have been on our fertility journey for over 5 years now. If you’ve gone through a season of miscarriage or stillbirth our heart goes out to you. We want to create a group where we can share life (ups & downs), grow, and journey through life together. Speaking of groups...we are starting a new Life Group for young married and young family couples! The heart of our group is to open up, be there for, and grow together. We hope to be a place to dive deeper into our relationship with Christ, laugh, and hang out together. Along the way we will discuss studies on books of the Bible, marriage, and life.

Group Description
Hi, my name is Marty and this is a walking interest-based life group. My hope for this group is to build and strengthen a community of individuals through consistency in exercise, companionship, helping others, and spiritual growth. I ask God for the opportunity for us to have God’s grace, hope, love, and faith pour forth from us daily to those around us.
I have attended services regularly at Northside for over 9 years. I am a sports and recreation enthusiast but I have let sedentary activities take root for much of my free time in recent years. I am a single dad with a 10 year old daughter in 5th grade but I have been living in a state of partial isolation. You may share similar obstacles or have your own, but if you desire a group that has some time, attention, and positivity for you, then this may be a good group for you to try.
The plan is to walk regularly on Tuesday evenings at the Kevin Hammersmith Memorial Park (the park directly behind Northside). The park has a moderate 0.75 mile walking trail and we normally walk 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the group’s preference for those in attendance. If there are more than 5 in attendance, then we will likely split into smaller groups for the walk. We may also rotate locations to other parks or hiking trails depending on the group’s desires. If lighting or weather is an issue, then we may walk indoors at the Green Tree Mall or other location. Along the way, we will discuss the weekly sermons and life in general, and include prayer. Additionally, I may propose extra walks at different dates and times for those interested. I have a group set up on the GroupMe app to plan our walks and communicate with this walking group.
This group is open to those in all seasons of life (couples, singles, women, men, young and old, etc). Please make sure you are healthy for this type of exercise and take the necessary precautions for your well-being. Children are welcome to join the walks provided they are capable and do not cause too much distraction to the group’s purpose and members.
“There are plenty of difficult obstacles in your path. Don’t allow yourself to become one of them.” – quote from Ralph Marston

We are not called to be successful, we are called to be obedient and faithful. This often makes us look foolish to the world, but we are called to be fools for Christ's sake. Group Description
I am Tim Montgomery and live in the Sellersburg area. I am currently a consultant that travels every week Monday through Friday. It is great going to church on Sunday, but I miss connecting with a small group. Obviously, travel makes it very difficult to attend a "traditional" small group. I am excited about starting a virtual small group for individuals in similar circumstances. I am looking forward to connecting with Men in similar circumstances. Sharing our unique trials given life on the road... how God can use us in our circumstances and grow our faith. I am married with three adult children, who are all living on their own (one married). Even though we will be a virtual group, I also look forward to finding some opportunities were we can connect in person.

My name is Billy Townsend and I am married with three children and one grandson. I have been attending Northside Christian Church since 2013. I am a graduate of the Reboot Combat Recovery course offered at Northside. I am presently employed with the State of Indiana working at the Work One office in New Albany, as the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program (DVOP) specialist. This new group we are starting is for Active Duty service members, Veterans, and their direct family members (Spouses and Parents). I am excited about this group and really feel that God is leading me and Northside in the direction of bringing veterans together so we can walk with each other through life as we understand the trials and obstacles veterans face daily. Veterans speak a distinct language that only veterans can understand. Veterans can also support and serve our community as a whole to bring that camaraderie that a lot of us miss from our time serving our country.

Over the last year, I have felt God calling me to lead an all women’s group. There are several of us who get together weekly to walk through life and dive into God’s word. We are all 28-35 years old, single/dating, and no children of our own yet. We are all in the young adult stage and find peace in knowing we are not in this life alone. We love having our much needed girl's nights and the moments were we get to connect through different teachings. We follow along with the churches series as well as break off and do our own studies at times. We thrive on keeping our group a place of no judgement and knowing your brokenness is always welcome.

Group Description
Our group is filled with women who want to know Jesus personally. We’ve been together for about a year and are ready to dive deeper. We don’t shy away from tough topics, awkward conversations, or controversy...we lean in and always ask: “What does the Word say?” We’ve been known to laugh, cry, and pray loudly in this group...so all we ask is that you come exactly as you are! #nofilter We are so excited to meet the new women God will bring in our path.

What do you do when you don’t believe in divorce but find yourself in a toxic, or even dangerous, marriage? If you are a woman who has experienced the pain of physical or emotional abuse within your intimate relationship, we are inviting you to journey with us through healing. There is so much hurt, pain and trauma we deal with daily and the support of women walking the path is priceless. Sister, we can pick up the pieces and live in hope and freedom as we heal in the one true place of refuge. Because we all need a safe place to heal together.

Group Description
I am relatively new on staff, having been hired to be the Community Life Pastor here at Northside in May of 2021. I am married and have one daughter who just graduated college. I'm originally from Connecticut and my wife is originally from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, but we most recently arrived from Texas where I served as a Campus Pastor in Lubbock, TX. I'm a huge sports fan and love all things outdoors. We own an RV and enjoy going on camping adventures with friends and family. I am truly a people person and enjoy meeting with and talking to people of all ages, hearing their stories, and learning about what God is doing in their lives. I believe God has a unique plan and purpose for all of us and I love to help people step into their calling and live the full life that God has for each of us. Whether we are in the same stage of life or not, I'd love to have you join this group. I love groups that have different ages, backgrounds, and perspectives.

Group Description
We are Discin' Disciples Southern Indiana Chapter and we are a Disc Golf oriented group that is following Jesus' call to go out and make disciples. We have found a way to join one of our joys in life with the mission of life, making disciples. Our focus for each event is to hold a short devotional, take prayer requests and pray, then play a round of disc golf. We also plan to hold several charity tournaments throughout the year, along with monthly and possibly bi-monthly leagues. All are welcome, no matter what season you may be in or your skill level. There are several of us who have 30+ years of experience in this sport and love teaching others about our sport and about how God saved us! You can also find us on Facebook under Discin' Disciples of Southern Indiana for more information. We look forward to seeing you! Group Description
We have been in a life group for about 10 years, and we have decided to lead our own. It seems like the right next step for us. We have been at Northside for 13 years. We are the parents of 4 kids - ages ranging from 7 to 23. (Yeah...we know what you're thinking. Haha.) Steven is the proud owner of Wheatley Woodworking, where he gets to 'not' work for a living. He creates gorgeous pieces of custom furniture and loves every minute of it. Kristi is a 3rd grade teacher in Corydon, Indiana where she loves almost all of her minutes. We enjoy meeting new people and listening to life stories from all ages and perspectives. Spending time as a couple and sharing life experiences with others helps us connect to our faith. We are looking forward to what God has in store for our first time leading a life group.
KidCare for 5th grade and under will be available during the Spring Session of onsite groups. The cost is $10 per child and $20 max per family per night.

Group Description
Our group is diverse in age but the majority are in their 50's and 60's. We are also diverse in level of spiritual background, types of churches we have attended, and employment. But we all have a desire to grow spiritually and to encourage each other to do the same. Our group has served together by cooking on Grill days, doing Serve Day projects, and enjoying just getting together and eating during our break times. Just a fun bunch of guys to be part of.

Group Description
My name is Tim Ferree. My wife and I have attended Northside for over 30 years. We raised 3 children at Northside who are now all on their own. Pam teaches 3rd grade at Christian Academy of Indiana. I recently quit teaching after 34 years and am now an International Trainer with the mission organization Discipleship Global. We train how to start Disciple Making Movements using simple, reproducible, biblically-based discipleship tools, most of which were put together by Curtis Sargeant. Millions have come to Christ through the application of these tools.
If you want to grow as a disciple, this group is for you! Come learn how to share the gospel in 3 minutes, how to share your testimony in 3 minutes, how to pray for an hour, how to read the Bible, how to lead a Bible study that reproduces, etc.. These tools are taught in a "hands on" fashion, so come ready to learn and participate. The material repeats about every 40 weeks and can be learned in any order, so it is ok to "pop in and out" as your schedule allows. To join this group, just click the "Join Group" button, fill out the form, and the group leader will follow up soon.

Hello! We are Tom and Katie Mason! We have lived in Southern Indiana for about four years now. We have three great kids, two teenage boys and a sprite of a nine year old daughter. We like to play games, hike an easy path, watch movies, and also eat yummy food.
Our hope is that this group will be a place where we can seek answers to questions about parenting, marriage or other tough seasons. Also, a safe place if you are wanting to seek God but not sure how, or for those that may have been hurt by the church but still want to know about Christ.
