Frequently Asked Questions
What is Baby Dedication?
Baby Dedication is a ceremony in which parents bring their child before the Lord to thank Him for him/her and ask wisdom in raising that child to love God and honor Him.
What is the difference between baptism and dedication?
Dedication is a public declaration that parents make before the church body on behalf of their child. They vow to raise their children in a Christian home and do their best to lead them in God’s ways until they are old enough to decide to be baptized. Baby dedication does not ensure salvation for a child. Baptism is for children who are older (usually 9+ years), understand salvation and are ready to make a commitment to follow Christ personally.
When does Baby Dedication take place?
This event takes place during regular worship services on one designated weekend in February. Specific information available in January.
Is there a fee for baby dedication?
There is no fee for baby dedication.
What is the age requirement for children being dedicated?
Children need to be ages 0-36 months to participate in baby dedication.
How do I register and what is the deadline?
Download a registration form here or register at the children’s info center. Registration deadline is February 10, 2010. Remember to sign the form stating you have read and understand the FAQ’s.
What happens after I register my child?
You will receive a confirmation either by email or phone that your info has been received. If you need further info, contact brobertson@mynorthside.com.
Do I have to be a member of Northside to participate?
You do not need to be a member to participate. Northside welcomes all those who are regular attendees at our church.
Are single parents allowed to participate?
Yes, as long as you and your child’s other parent (or your current significant other) are not living together out of wedlock. For further information on this policy, contact Gary Norman, one of Northside’s elders and Operations Manager.
What else is needed from each family?
We also need a photo of your child. Professional photos are accepted ONLY with written permission from the photographer. Photos may include other family members. Be sure to include your child’s name on the back of your photo.
What should we wear for the event?
There is no special attire for Baby Dedication. Children should be clothed and comfortable for the event. Adults should dress appropriately.
Should extended family members attend the event? Where should they sit?
Northside welcomes anyone who wishes to support each family in this special event. Extended family members may be seated in any area of the auditorium. Parents and children will be seated in a specially marked area for easy access to the stage in the auditorium.
What else will take place during the event?
Details of the baby dedication ceremony will be covered in the Discover Godly Parenting Class.
Can someone take pictures during the ceremony?
Yes, pictures may be taken, however, each family will receive a complimentary DVD of their service. Parents will also receive a certificate for each child dedicated.
PLAYGROUPS
Our Early Childhood Ministry desires to Connect Moms to one another so that, together, we can grow in Christ. We want moms to build relationships with one another while raising their kids to be like Christ. This can be difficult in a church the size of Northside, so we have designed playgroups to connect moms & dads on a mom/dad level, and kids on a kid level all at the same time.
To register download a Playgroup Registration Form and return to the info center, email Tiffany Henley at athenley@insightbb.com, or call Kirbie Moore at 812-542-4029.
